Sandra Strangman, RMT - Body Balance Therapy Owner

Sandra has been the owner of Body Balance for 26 of her 28 years as a registered massage therapist. Over the years, Sandra has worked with many groups including women’s hockey, Olympic  weight-lifting, ball hockey, women’s soccer and most notably, The Shumka Dancers.

She has a keen interest in athletics and enjoys augmenting her clients’ athletic performance. While Sandra has a wide and varied clientele, many of her clients are Masters Athletes who benefit from her wide range of massage techniques including kinesio taping.

Sandra’s first love is running, having competed at the university level. She is a devoted student of Bikram Yoga which has been instrumental in managing a fractured neck injury from 1998. She now swims recreationally but well into her university years, she taught swimming and was a lifeguard for the City of Edmonton.

Due to a series of knee surgeries, Sandra is not currently practising as an RMT but she is devoting herself to the BBT mentorship program for aspiring student RMTs. Sandra is instructor to 2 or 3 students per term.  These students are rigorously interviewed and only the best are chosen.  All of their work is under the scrutiny of her expert tutelage.  Some of these students prove to be so good that we keep them!

Dr. Sahar Halbi, MD, acupuncturist and Oriental Medicine

We are proud to have registered acupuncturist, Dr. Sahar Halabi, under the Body Balance umbrella.  She is an inspiration to our staff and our clients and she is an exceptional healer.

Dr. Halabi, who is also a medical doctor, uses acupuncture to diagnose and promote health by stimulating the body’s own healing powers. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical system that includes the insertion of needles to help the body realign or redirect its network of interrelating energies.

Dr. Halbi studied at the Kharkov Medical Institute and Grant MacEwan University and currently is an instructor at Reeves College, Edmonton.

Serina Cote, RMT

Serina graduated from her 2200-hour massage therapy program at Foothills College of Massage in 1999.

With over a decade of experience in the profession, Serina offers deep tissue, relaxation and pre-natal massage for her clients. This fall she will be taking her Competency Equivalency Exam (CEE) with the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada, which will increase her hours of training to 2200.
Serina is a member in good standing with the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada and is currently working towards her Level 1 Reiki certificate.

When not at the clinic, Serina enjoys cooking and live theatre.

Naomi Holmstrom, RMT HHP

Naomi Holmstrom is a graduate of Grant MacEwan's Massage Therapy and Holistic Health Practitioner Diploma programs. Naomi has been working as a Registered Massage Therapist for sixteen years and is a member in good standing with the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada. Naomi provides deep tissue, therapeutic, pre/post natal and infant massage, and relaxation massage. Naomi utilizes a variety of techniques, including Acupressure, trigger point work, myofascial release, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, reflexology and passive stretch. Naomi is also an Advanced Reiki practitioner. Naomi recently took a Doula training course, and is happy offer additional support to prenatal clients.

Her other interests include spending time in nature, activities with her young family, hiking, and the occasional perusal of literature with a good cup of coffee.


Currently Naomi will NOT BE AVAILABLE April 16, 2020 through to July 2020, and is NOT taking bookings during that time. There is a possibility those dates could change, so check back often to ensure you get in for treatment. This is a temporary unavailability, and Naomi will be back to regular scheduling September.

Sara Szabo, RMT

Sara is a graduate of the Grant MacEwan Massage Therapy program with 2200 hours of training including modalities such as: hydrotherapy, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, sports massage and more. She has also completed one-on-one training of deep tissue techniques with admin.

Sara particularly enjoys providing deep tissue and therapeutic massage to her clients. She loves to travel and practice yoga and is very interested in health and fitness.

Sara is a member in good standing with the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada and is excited to pursue further education in the future.

Student Massage Therapists in our Mentorship Program

On a regular basis, Body Balance Therapy mentors and trains student massage therapists, to help them qualify for their registration.  The hours they spend with our clients are supervised and the fees charged for student services are at a reduced rate.  Sandra is the primary student instructor, so you know they are in good hands!

Body Balance Therapy is currently accepting resumes for students this August and September for our Fall Mentorship Program.

Lesley Wiggins, RMT

Lesley Wiggins is a registered massage therapist originally from Saskatchewan. She graduated from the 2200-hour program at Western College of Massage Therapy in June of 2018. Since moving to Edmonton, she has obtained her Level 2 Reiki Practitioner certificate and is currently studying to be a Manual Osteopathic Therapist. She has a strong passion to help people achieve overall wellness in natural and holistic ways. She specializes in providing a firm, therapeutic massage combined with relaxation techniques that best suit the client’s needs. Other specialties include relaxation, deep tissue, hot stone, hydrotherapy, pre & post-natal, lymphatic drainage, joint mobilization, trigger points and myofascial therapy. She is looking forward to providing quality treatment and looking forward to the new experiences that she will be able to share to help others restore their health and well-being. She will be offering 15-minute complementary assessments to go towards her practicum goals.

On her own time, Lesley enjoys being creative, getting outdoors and staying active!

Denise Ferrance, RMT

Denise graduated from Alberta College of Massage Therapy with 2200 hours of training. She has acquired Swedish Relaxation as well as Deep Tissue techniques. Her techniques include a range of modalities such as myofascial release, effleurage, hydrotherapy, proprioceptive therapy, trigger point therapy, joint play and many others, to help restore the body to a more optimal level of function, relieving the body of toxins and facilitating an overall feeling of relaxation.

Denise has always had a passion for massage therapy and a natural curiosity and belief in the body's innate ability to heal and thrive when in a state of homeostasis. Her passion and desire for learning has enabled her to benefit from the experience and mentorship at Body Balance by providing her with hands on training, enabling her to continue to add more tools to her repertoire to help benefit clients.

Denise is a member of Natural Health Practitioners of Canada and is excited for the ongoing learning experience provided to her in massage therapy.

Kathleen Potts, RMT

Kathleen graduated from MaKami college with a 3000 hour program in May of 2017. She is visually impaired which aids her greatly in in her sense of touch. She has a passion for therapeutic massage and working on injuries. She also enjoys working on temporal mandibular joint disorders (TMJD) and preforming intraoral massage. She is currently enrolled in a TCM acupuncture student program at Reeves college, due to graduate March 2021. In her spare time she enjoys long boarding with her husband and daughter trying to stay active in her busy lifestyle.

Travis Miller, RMT

Tavis Miller is a graduate of M.H. Vicars 2200 hr Massage Therapy program. Currently he is enrolled at the Manual Osteopathic College of Canada, and is on track to graduate in October 2021. He is a hard working, self-motivated therapist who finds fulfilment in helping others. Tavis has a real intrest in the human body and how it works. By utilizing hydrotherapy, myofascial, trigger point and active inhibition techniques, he is able to provide therapeutic relief for clients.

People may wonder what an Osteopathic Manual Therapist is, and how it can benefit them. He likes to describe them as biomechanical specialist. They employ light, gentle techniques to locate and correct imbalances in the body at their source. This allows for greater freedom of movement and the reduction or elimination of pain and discomfort. For example, a structural imbalance in the pelvis or lumbar spine can often be the cause of pain we feel all the way up in our neck, shoulders and back. Through the use of targeted specialized techniques, areas of disfunction can often be reoriented back into their natural alignment. This enables the body to return to healthful state.
